Acro was delighted to attend Spirit Airline’s event at its Detroit hangar on Tuesday, 17th December, where the Florida based carrier with flights throughout the U.S., Latin America and the Caribbean, revealed its new A320neo aircraft with redesigned cabin interiors featuring the Series 6LC Economy Class seat by Acro.

Spirit is the launch customer for this next-generation seat which has been designed to fulfil the product requirements of low-cost carrier airlines who want to achieve a robust and lightweight seating solution, without compromising comfort and the ability to offer seat features which will improve the passenger experience.

Spirit selected Acro for the delivery of Series 6LC on forty linefit and forty-three retrofit A320 aircraft, with first deliveries and installations taking place earlier this month at the Detroit hangar. Attending the event on behalf of Acro was Marc Westcott, Key Account Manager – USA, and Rachel Barnett, Head of Marketing.

- Marc Westcott, Acro Key Account Manager, said:

“Spirit is a long-standing customer of Acro’s and we are extremely proud that they are our first Series 6LC customer. This launch event was the culmination of an intensive 15-month programme, whereby both teams at Spirit and Acro have worked in close collaboration to achieve an industry-leading Economy Class product which has been endorsed by leading ergonomics experts.”

Partnering with the Charted Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIHEF), Spirit Airlines conducted a study on the ergonomics and comfort of the Series 6LC seats. The CIEHF concluded that Acro’s innovative curved composite seatback design unlocks space and provides an additional two-inches of usable legroom when compared to industry-standard flatback seats with the same pitch. This results in an enhanced passenger comfort as it enables a wider range of healthy postures and movements.

Spirit’s striking new seats have a sleek and modern aesthetic with soft touch matte-black synthetic leather upholstery and contrast border stitching in signature yellow. Other seat features include an upper literature pocket and a sliding single-leaf table with cup recess. Passenger comfort is also improved with thicker cushioning and lumbar support and a pre-reclined seatback. In addition, the middle seat will be an inch wider, and the exit row will gain over and inch of pre-recline.

- Ted Christie, President and CEO of Spirit Airlines commented:

“We listened to our Guests and went on the hunt for the optimal Spirit seat. Our new seats and cabin redesign were developed from the ground up to enhance the experience, while maintaining our low fares at the same time. We’re the fastest growing airline in the country, and we’re delighted to usher in these innovations in Guest comfort as our fleet doubles in size over the next five years.”

- Acro’s Marc Westcott added:

“We look forward to continuing our co-operation with Spirit and supporting the roll-out of seats across their fleet so that many more of Spirit’s guests can soon experience the latest seat innovation.”
