International Day of Women and Girls in Science at Acro

Championing careers within science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) is part of our mission here at Acro – so, this International Day of Women and Girls in Science we wanted to spotlight the experience of women working in STEM.

From problem-solving on the production floor to breaking down barriers in aviation, Molly Teale (Manufacturing Engineer), share what drives her, the challenges for women in the industry and the best advice she has been given.

What do you like most about working at Acro?

MT: The friendliness of warehouse staff, the flexibility my job lets me have (flexi-start, work from home) as well as the variety of my work. There’s never two days the same and my tasks are always interesting.

Why did you choose this as a career?

MT: I have always enjoyed both making and fixing things as well as problem solving, so becoming a manufacturing engineer seemed like a no brainer.

What is most interesting about your role?

MT (Manufacturing Engineer): The variety. One day could be very paperwork centered, another could be very active and physical, while another could be a lot of problem solving.

What challenges do you think women have working in Aviation?

MT: Not being taken seriously, especially by more senior/old fashioned peers. It can be rather hard to get your foot in the door in terms of finding a role that fits you as well as feeling like you have something to prove.

What’s the best piece of career advice you have been given?

MT: Trust in yourself and your abilities. You are stronger than you know and more than capable of reaching your goals and then some.
