We caught up with Josh Harvey, Head of Programmes at Acro Aircraft Seating, to ask him to give us an insight into his day-to-day work, his team and his advice for those looking to progress in the industry. Read on to find out more:
What does your role involve?
As Head of Programmes, my primary responsibility is to ensure that our programmes are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest quality. My focus is supporting the Programme Managers, creating clarity, removing roadblocks, driving accountability, and giving them the tools to be successful.
In addition to this, I work with our Commercial team and customers to shape commercial contracts and agreements and ensuring we are and remain compliant. I am also the commercial and account contact at Acro for Airbus and Boeing.
Beyond the operational side, I’m passionate about developing the people on my team. I believe strong programmes start with strong programme managers and so believe a significant part of my role is to coach, support, and empower them to grow into confident, effective leaders.
What does a typical week look like?
No two weeks are the same at Acro. Usually, every day starts with the all-important coffee, check-ins with the Programme Managers to discuss progress, risks and opportunities. I also spend time troubleshooting issues that require cross-functional alignment across the business, or exec decision making and sign off. Governance updates to various stakeholders within the business also forms part of my week, as well as representing Acro to customers and with Airbus and Boeing at various meetings and reviews.
I always like to invest a significant amount of my time with the team, recognising wins, coaching or catching up over that coffee! You can’t underestimate the importance of catching up with the team, ensuring that everyone is happy and that we are all working to the same goals.

Tell us about a recent success story from your team?
We’ve had many moments to be proud of, from team members achieving their APM PMQ qualification and professional membership to successfully responding to last-minute customer requests.
These wins highlight not only individual growth but also the team’s ability to collaborate across functions and consistently deliver for our customers.
I’m also proud to see the team invest more into their continuous professional development.
How does your team contribute to the organisational goals?
Programmes are where customer requirements meet execution and come to life. My team then translates those requirements – factoring in engineering feasibility, certification needs, procurement constraints, and production input – into clear schedules, budgets, and scopes.
Programme Managers also ensure that projects and initiatives are aligned with organisational priorities, deliver maximum value, and effectively manage risk. We act as the conduit between departments, helping align efforts, manage dependencies, and maintain momentum across the business.
What am I most proud of?
I’m incredibly proud of the culture we’ve built in the Programmes team. It’s one of trust, curiosity, and accountability. We celebrate each other’s wins, learn from setbacks, and push each other to grow. Seeing team members develop into confident, strategic leaders is the most fulfilling part of the role.
I’m also proud of the impact we’ve had on delivery excellence across the business. We’ve worked collaboratively across departments to raise the bar on what good looks like.
Is there any advice we would you give to someone wanting to move into a leadership role like yours?
If you’re aiming for a leadership role, focus on three things: People, Purpose, and Perspective.
Leadership is about service. Get to know your team – understand what motivates them and invest in their development.
Stay connected to the ‘why’ behind the work. That sense of purpose will guide you through ambiguity and change.
Zoom out regularly. Great leaders keep sight of the bigger picture both internally and economically, anticipate challenges, and adapt.
Stay curious – no one is ever too senior to keep learning.
Don’t wait to feel “ready” before stepping up. Growth happens outside your comfort zone. Be open to feedback and trust in your ability to learn and lead as you go.
And, of course, don’t forget to enjoy the job and the people you work with.
