A day in the life...

Acro colleagues giving us an insight on what it’s like to work here on a day to day basis.

Nicky Wilson

Lead NPD Project Manager

Tell me what your role involves?

I work in the Programmes group as New Product Development (NPD) Project Manager, reporting to the Head of Programmes.
I work closely on a daily basis with the Chief Engineer to lead new product developments from ‘light bulb moment’ to productionised product.
Currently I’m managing 3 new seat developments, but there are also other smaller projects such as cost down initiatives and internal business improvement projects.

What is a typical day like?

My Monday would typically involve a 9am meeting with the Chief Engineer and Design Team Leads to set-up the weeks priorities and tasks. This would shortly be followed by a departmental stand-up meeting to deliver the tasks and to open up the forum to flag any issues or concerns.
Depending on where the projects are in their respective stage gate processes, the rest of the day can be spent making sure the deliverables are on track, reviewing project plans, or preparing reports & communications to the board. Every day is varied, there is no such thing as a ‘typical’ day!

What attracted you to Acro?

It’s a company with big ambitions, and it is full of enthusiasm!
I was also attracted by the fact that Acro is an ‘all under one roof’ company – by this I mean that the management team and staff all work on the same site. This makes communications and decisions much more efficient than in previous companies I’ve worked for.

What do you enjoy about working at Acro?

I have to say that I work with great team of people. All of them are committed to doing a great job and all aware of the importance of their individual efforts in making things happen, which makes my life a lot easier.
I like that the Senior Management Team are approachable and are actively involved in the day-to-day business, as it means they are at the ‘coal face’ with you in terms of issues and resolutions.

What did you do before you came here?

I was the Senior R&D Project Manager for a large US owned organisation. We developed an extremely complicated, state-of-the-art machine for detecting  explosives in hold luggage. I was a challenging role, which has given me good experience that I can use to good effect at Acro.

Tell me something interesting about yourself

I like to keep busy in my spare time. I enjoy keeping fit – competing in triathlons, running and cycling. I also race motorcycles at British level.
