NPD Project Manager

Reporting into the Lead Project Manager, the NPD Project Manager will be responsible for supporting New Product Development Engineering (NPD) in the successful delivery of complex projects. The NPD PM will work alongside the Lead Project Manager and the Head of Programmes taking on a wide range of project management activities for both internal and external stakeholders.

To be successful in this position you will have/be;

Previous experience

Project management experience with previous management of projects within aircraft seating/interiors. Previous experience of working for a leading aircraft seating manufacturer or Aircraft interior manufacturer highly desired. Setting-up and managing projects in accordance with NPD and Programmes governance practices. Manage projects through the NPD projects gated development process. Harmonisation of project milestones across departments, documents and trackers. Recording actions and maintain action trackers, following-up with action owners to make sure open items are completed in the agreed timescales. Collation of reports for stakeholders, these will include but not limited to monthly, risk, strategy and progress reports. Monitoring of project spend against budgets, preparing updates to project estimates to completion (ETCs). Gathering data and tracking project KPIs for inclusion in reports and measuring project deliverables. Applying visual management tools and maintaining the information on a daily basis. Support both in preparation and attendance of client and supplier meetings including scheduling, minutes and actions capture and circulation. Chair risk & opportunities, lesson learnt sessions and cross functional workshops as required.

Obtained or working towards a recognised project management qualification (i.e. Prince 2) is desirable. A strong technical background and strong negotiating skills. Ability to operate under pressure and tight deadlines. Positive and pragmatic approach to achieving results. Strong interpersonal skills and be a team player. Must work well under their own initiative.

Graduate Engineers - Aerospace

As a Graduate Engineer you will have the opportunity to progress within the Design Engineering department and undertake design, engineering and development tasks related to the aircraft seat programmes utilising 3D CAD software.  You ensure will product deliverables are on time and adhere to customer aesthetic and technical ambitions whilst considering the seat weight, cost and available resources.  Alternatively, If you have more of an interest and aptitude in testing, planning, report writing and problem solving then you will be progressed as a Graduate Project Engineer within the certification department and will work across a range of certification activities across multiple seating projects.

 To be successful in your graduate application you will have / be;

 A recent graduate with a minimum of a B grade in Maths and Physics and a 2:1 Degree in Mechanical Engineering. A passion for and keen interest in developing your experience within compliance and certification or Design Engineering. Previous exposure to 3D CAD programmes and a natural ability to quickly learn new systems and processes. A naturally organised and structured mind with a process driven approach. A keen interest in learning about regulation and the latest manufacturing techniques such as composites, injection mouldings, vacuum forming, castings, forgings, extrusions and machined from solid. Excellent communication skill both written and verbal with the ability to build and manage professional relationships both internally and externally. Capable of adapting and managing different projects and changing priorities in a fast paced environment.

Project Test Engineer

Reporting into the Senior Project Engineer and with a focus on product development, the Project Test Engineer will ensure the seating products are optimised fully with weight, cost and robustness considered when managing and coordinating tests that will determine and develop the performance of the product.

Key Responsibilities;

  • Challenge the design and certification team to optimise for weight, product robustness, recurring and non-recurring costs. Through the management of the DVP (design verification plan) define the means to ensure the products, components and materials pass the regulatory requirements. Managing and prioritising the timings of tests and organising the tests both internally and externally, liaising with procurement and the prototype seat building team to ensure on time delivery. Write test setups, plans and reports to ensure the test configuration and outcome are sufficiently captured. Lead and coordinate problem solving activities to understand the results from tests and to ensure engineering updates are coordinated on time to support subsequent testing.

 To be successful in this position you will have / be;

  • Previous experience within an engineering environment with a specific focus on development and test. A Mechanical Engineering Degree and demonstrable experience within project and test engineering with a focus on structural products.Previous experience from the motor or aviation industry with DVP (design verification plan) experience.Excellent organisation, and coordination skill with the ability to work at a pace in a time critical environment.Excellent written and verbal communication skill with the ability to work well under own initiative.A natural analytical approach with the ability to analyse problems and recommend a course of action.Excellent interpersonal skills.

Head of Purchasing

Reporting into the Operations Director and working closely with Engineering, Accounts, Production and external suppliers, the Head of Purchasing will lead the development of partnerships with suppliers, manage the timely delivery and cost effective purchasing of all production and consumable materials, introduce and develop new and existing suppliers into the NPD process.
Key Responsibilities;

  • Build and maintain real, mutually beneficial partnerships with new and existing suppliers. Coach and develop the Purchasing team to achieve the companies and their own aspirations. Drive the purchasing team to achieve and maintain tight purchasing schedules. Reduce material costs wherever possible within the guidelines of quality standards and inventory levels.
  • Negotiate contracts for supply of material from existing and new suppliers to also include upholding and improving quality standards of materials received.
  • Develop processes to guarantee adequate and on time delivery of materials for production. Development, implementation and continuous improvement of all purchasing and material control systems.
  • Setting and ensuring achievement on short term targets and long term goals for the purchasing and manufacturing operation.
  • Source new materials, processes and suppliers for new and existing products as required.
  • To be successful in this position you will have/be;
  • Previous purchasing management experience within a progressive manufacturing / engineering environment. Experience within the aerospace industry would be a distinct advantage although not essential. Excellent organisation and coordination skill with a creative approach to problem solving to ensure a key alignment between purchasing, the supply chain, manufacturing and customer services.
  • Strong team management, motivation, nurturing and dynamic leadership skills. First class negotiation skill with a target and results driven approach. Excellent relationship building ability with a partnership in supply chain style. Knowledge of modern manufacturing practices and NPD (New Product Development). Fully conversant in the use and management of ERP / MRP systems and inventory control processes.

Industrial Design Manager

Key Responsibilities;

  • To act as the product champion and voice of the passenger within the design process.
  • To capture and document product requirements.
  • Develop design briefs for and then work with external design agencies to create product design concepts that fulfill the company product plan.
  • Create and manage physical models/prototypes of concepts which are often outsourced but to take a hands on approach is an essential part of the role.
  • Lead collaboration with the design engineering and supply chain to ensure design concepts meet requirements.
  • Maintain design integrity throughout the engineering design phases by participating in regular design engineering reviews.

Certification Engineer

Leading a range of certification activities across multiple seating projects you will work directly with the authorities, external (A)DOA and airframe manufactures to deliver acceptable Certification documents. Completing all required certification activities in line with the programme and business requirements, these could include static, dynamic, flammability and environmental certification plans and reports. Lead structured problem solving activity following undesired project outcomes, pursue to conclusion, document investigation and then communicate and implement lessons learned.

Key responsibilities are:Compile, review and submit certification & technical publishing documentation, and take responsibility for their quality output and timely delivery. Compile or Verify Compliance against certification requirements of certification documentation, test plans and reports to meet applicable regulations, guidance material and specifications. Keep up to date, review and understand all applicable regulatory material, guidance material and interpret for project application. Develop best practice processes and documentation to support a lean approach to quick turnaround of projects for baseline products. To support the generation of CMMs/SBs/TRs/SILs to required industry standards, with the aid of CAD tools and when available products to review the design. Keep up to date, review and understand all applicable regulatory material, guidance material and interpret for project application

To be successful in this position you will have/be;

Senior Applications Engineer

This role is exclusively with eSift, no agencies please.

As an integral member of the Design Engineer team and reporting into the Lead Design Engineer the Senior Applications Engineer will be accountable for the safe and reliable design of aircraft seats across multiple programmes. Leading and managing a team of engineers you will be technically responsible for the products that you and your team deliver. You will act as the main technical interface between the business and the customer, ensuring that all requirements both design and regulatory focussed are successfully negotiated and delivered upon.

Key Responsibilities;

  • Defining, driving, planning, controlling and monitoring progress of the engineering team to ensure full delivery of multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Lead, manage and support direct reports with the design and compliance of the aircraft seat on a day to day basis as well as managing 1-2-1 meetings, holiday approval, sickness/absence management, personal development plans and appraisal reviews.
  • Direct and regular liaison with the external customer and airframe manufacturer to ensure all engineering requirements are understood and agreed.
  • Develop relationships with key suppliers in order to successfully deliver on the technical solutions.
  • To support the Lead Design Engineer and Engineering Manager in continuous improvement of systems and processes to maximise efficiency and quality output ensuring best practice.
  • To communicate with all relevant engineering, stress and certification teams and regulatory bodies to ensure all aspects of checking and approval are met.

To be successful in this position you will have/be;

  • A Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering degree.
  • Post graduate design engineering experience within the aerospace sector.
  • Previous experience of engineering complex structural or mechanical products through to manufacture.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading, supervising or managing a team of engineers.
  • 3D CAD capability and experience, Catia 5 preferred.
  • Excellent and previous customer facing experience from an engineering perspective.
  • A strong negotiator, decision maker, excellent coordination and organisation skill.
